Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cash. Some thrift stores only take cash.
  1. Step 1

Thrift stores are a great place to buy low cost accessories. Almost every thrift store has a rack of low cost accessories. Sometimes you might find a hidden treasure. Here's how to shop for accessories at a thrift store.

  2. Step 2

    Keep your expectations realistic.

You won't find a Gucci bag at the local Goodwill. At least, you probably won't. Instead of fixating on a specific brand, look for high quality accessories that were originally expensive. Cheap items don't age well.

  3. Step 3

    Try your accessories on.

It's so important to try all the accessories you buy at a thrift store on. Trying the item on and looking in a mirror is a great indicator of whether the accessory is hot or not. You don't want to make the mistake of buying unappealing junk.

  4. Step 4

    Don't get costume jewelry.

You are wearing clothes, not a costume. Avoid tacky looking items. Big oversized jewelry or belts are a total mistake. Look for items that would work in your actual wardrobe.

  5. Step 5

    Buy only a few items.

Buy only a few accessories and try them out in your daily life. If they work, you might have the knack for thrift store shopping. If your accessories look cheap and out of place, get rid of them and start over. It takes some trial and error to buy accessories at a thrift store. Don't expect success on your first trip.

  6. Step 6

Look around the entire thrift store.

Sometimes, accessories are hidden out of the way. You'll want to fully investigate the thrift store to see if there are any out of the way items you would like to purchase.

  7. Step 7

    Ask the staff for help.

Someone friendly on the staff may guide you to the higher quality accessories in the store.
