Step 1
First you must decide which keyword search tool you will use. I prefer the Google Adwords External Keyword Tool. I can trust it because it's from Google and better yet, it's free. You just type in your keyword or keyword phrase and it will tell you how many searches have been done on it and give you alternates.
-
Step 2
Start with the keywords you would use if you were doing a search on a particular subject. The tool will then tell you how popular it is. Then review the alternates and decide which apply to your website or article.
-
Step 3
If your product, service, article, or website is in a particularly competitive field, consider selecting keywords that are not the most popular. You want keywords that have an excellent following in terms of searches, but are not so competitive you don't have a prayer of indexing in the top results.
-
Step 4
This is even true with eHow articles. Many select the most competitive keywords in the hopes that the related ads will give them the most amount of ad-click money. However, they forget that Google is going to index their articles to a wider market than their eHow friends can provide. Look for keywords that have searches from 100,000 and under. However, try not to pick keywords that have searches under 5,000. That is simply not enough traffic. By picking less competitive keywords you have a great chance of being listed in the very top results for those keywords. Keep in mind that you will be using more than one keyword phrase so you will net traffic related to all of those searches every single month.
-
Step 5
Don't just use keywords, use keyword phrases. Most searches these days will use more than one word. Use these phrases in your articles or on your website, and repeat them in that pages meta tags. For eHow articles use them in your tags.
-
Step 6
Not everyone agrees with my methods, however some of the big players definitely do. I have used this method for most of my affiliate marketing efforts and it has rewarded me with a full time living for 12 years. There are different models, and you should also review those to decide which works best for you.
