Things You'll Need:
- A strong desire to defeat writer's block by making use of specific tips and strategies.
-
Step 1
When you find yourself experiencing writer's block, the first step is to tell yourself that everything is going to be okay and that you are not alone. Everyone who writes experiences writer's block from time to time. It is an extremely common problem. Sometimes just knowing that you are not suffering alone with a given problem (in this case, writer's block) can be an enormous source of comfort. You may even want to read what some famous writers have had to say about their own experiences with writer's block if you are looking for some additional comfort.
-
Step 2
Writers spend a lot of time alone. It's simply the nature of their craft. Sometimes when you spend a lot of time alone, the isolation can really get to you. It can also cause you to experience depression and/or writer's block. If you think that excessive isolation may be at the heart of your current case of writer's block, it is probably in your best interest to get out of the house for a while and to make some human contact. Consider meeting a friend for coffee and conversation. Sometimes a stimulating conversation is all you need to get you back on track with your writing because it can help to get your creative juices flowing all over again.
-
Step 3
Another helpful "trick" to try if you want to defeat writer's block is just to write. Write anything at all. It can be a diary entry or your thoughts on a particular current event or a letter or email message to a friend or family member. Writers are constantly writing, whether for professional or personal reasons. Sometimes when you are stuck on a particular writing project, if you can put that project aside and write something else (like an email message to a friend), this can get you out of your rut and help you defeat writer's block.
