It is especially hard to motivate yourself to do homework in the midst of "Spring Fever". Homework needs to get done weather you're full of energy or dog tired. There are lots of ways to motivate yourself to get it done, and get it done well. You might even have fun while you're doing your homework and getting good grades!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • your homework
  • a positive mindset
  • a couple of classmates
  • a well-lit, quiet place
  1. Step 1
school homework help from friends and family

Use all the resources available to you to complete your school homework. Your friends, your family and your teachers are all willing to help you complete assignments. Even if they don't actually sit down with you to do it, they can gently remind you (no nagging here, Mom!) how important that book report on Ancient China is for your final grade. Everyone wants you to succeed, so get energy and motivation from them.

Find an actual study partner. You can find a friend from class to buddy up with, or you can even find a study partner on Craigslist, MySpace, or Facebook. You will learn from new study techniques and studying tips that they have learned, bringing a fresh perspective to studying. A study partner will also keep you motivated because now you're invested in not just how you do with school assignments, but in how your friend does, too. The more you succeed, the more your friend will succeed. It's a NON-vicious cycle, and that's refreshing!

  3. Step 3

Always do your hardest school homework first. If you can feel your energy waning, get the tough hammered out before you fall off into a little nap. In fact, use a little snooze as a reward for getting a pain in the you-know-what completed! Upon waking, you'll be refreshed not only from the shut-eye, but by knowing that you only have the easy assignments left to finish!

  4. Step 4

Set up a quiet place to study that has great lighting. You don't necessarily need a desk. You just need a place where you feel comfortable (not too comfortable...remember step 3 says a "little" snooze) and that you won't be distracted. Most teaching professionals will recommend a place far away from your tv, iPod, or iPhone! Make your homework spot a little private sanctuary for yourself that you enjoy being in.

  5. Step 5
    You Rock!

    You Rock!

Give yourself credit for caring about your schoolwork. You are creating habits and patterns that will affect the rest of your life. Your success in school determines so much of your future- your college options, your job qualifications and your overall ability to follow directions, problem-solve, and self-motivate, even when tired. Keep up the good work and you'll go far!

Tips & Warnings
  • Get your parents to reward you with some money for each A on your report card. Negotiate for $10 or more, but be happy with whatever they think is reasonable.
  • Get as much homework done at school study halls as possible. That's what study halls are for, and you'll thank yourself later that evening when you can actually watch American Idol rather than finishing algebra.
  • If your extra tired without explaination, get some rest to fend off potential illness. Getting sick will put you very behind in school homework, so sacrificing one night of homework is better than missing a week because you didn't take care of yourself!
