Things You'll Need:
- Fimo clay beads
- Other beads
- Wire or string
- 2 end clasps
- 2 crimper beads
- Scissors
- Needle-nose pliers
-
Step 1
To start making fimo clay jewelry, you first need to decide what sort of jewelry you wish to make. Consider a necklace, bracelet, or anklet.
-
Step 2
Next you need to purchase your supplies. To make handmade fimo clay jewelry, you will need to buy fimo clay beads, any other matching beads you wish to include, wire or string, clasps, and crimper beads. Beading supplies can be purchased at specialty beading stores, or even at a department store like Walmart. Also try shopping for beads online.
-
Step 3
After you purchase your fimo clay beads and other supplies, you can choose a design for your jewelry. For example, if you are going to make a bracelet, then you can lay out a pattern of beads the length that would comfortably fit around your wrist. If you want to make a necklace, then your pattern would need to be longer.
-
Step 4
Once you’ve decided on a pattern for your fimo clay jewelry, you can now begin making your jewelry. Begin by cutting the length of your wire or string and be sure to add about an extra 4 inches for stringing your clasps or if you make a mistake. No matter if you are making a necklace, bracelet, or anklet, you need to clasp one end of your wire or string before doing anything with the beads.
-
Step 5
Start by stringing one of the crimper beads onto your wire or string, followed by either of the two clasps.
-
Step 6
Next loop the wire or string back through the crimper bead and be sure to pull tightly.
-
Step 7
Use a needle nose pliers to flatten the crimper bead and therefore hold the wire or string in place. You have now successfully clasped one end and are ready to begin adding fimo clay beads.
-
Step 8
Carefully bead your fimo clay jewelry following your pattern. When you are finished, you can add the final clasp.
-
Step 9
Attach the closing clasp to finish your piece of fimo clay jewelry using the same process as described in steps 5 through 7. Be sure that you leave an inch or two of space for this (i.e. don’t add beads to the absolute very end of your wire or string). You may cut off any wire or string slack sticking out past your flattened crimper beads.
-
Step 10
Fimo clay jewelryYour fimo clay jewelry should now be finished and ready to be worn! Use this same process to make all sorts of handmade jewelry using various fimo clay beads.
