Step 1
To truly celebrate St. Patrick's Day with green beer, one should start with a good Irish beer. Guiness, Harp, Murphy's Irish Stout are a few of the most popular Irish beers and are generally easy to find in the US.
-
Step 2
Place a few drops of green food coloring in the bottom of a beer mug. As a general rule, the darker the beer, the more food coloring it will take to make green beer. You may do this in a pitcher of beer as well, adding several drops of green food coloring.
-
Step 3
Tilt your beer mug at about a 45 degree angle, and slowly pour your beer down the side of the mug. To pour your beer into your mug in this manner ensures that you do not end up with too much head, or foam, in your green beer. If you see that your green beer isn't green enough, add a few more drops of green food coloring and stir slowly until you get the results you desire.
-
Step 4
For a truly traditional St. Patrick's Day, serve your green beer with traditional Irish food. Irish Stew, Poundies, Bangers, and Soda Bread are all easy to make and very tasty additions to any St. Patrick's Day feast. And don't forget to wear green!
