Avoid Heart Palpitations that may accompany Menopause

One of the symptoms of menopause can be heart palpitations, which can be very scary. Here are some things to avoid, and some things to do, that will help.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First and foremost, cut out all caffeine and sugar. Caffeine can cause heart fluttering and palpitations. Even if you have never experienced this before, it may happen once you start menopause, or perimenopause. Cutting out sugar eliminates that immediate "rush" you may feel after you eat a sugar loaded meal, and in addition, it raises your blood sugar levels. Try to keep your blood sugar levels as even as possible without wild swings.

  2. Step 2

Some supplements that may help with heart palpitations during menopause are magnesium and calcium. In addition, sodium and potassium are good too. These can be obtained through eating bananas, dark leafy greens, and beans.

  3. Step 3

It's also very important to stay well hydrated during menopause, as fluid imbalances can trigger heart palpitations. Drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water a day will help. Water will also help with hot flashes if you are experiencing them.

  4. Step 4

Some foods you can add to your diet are: Soybeans, white beans, spinach, almonds, shrimp, potatoes, and blackstrap molasses. These will help ease your symptoms of heart palpitations.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always consult your physician for any symptoms you may be experiencing with menopause.

on 7/10/2009 I had this happen to me. It's a shame doctors don't warn us about this. Thank you so much for getting this information out. Of course, you should also check with your doctor for anything with the heart, but knowing this helps reduce the fear. 5*
