Install fence poles and the fence

Explains a way to install a fence and what tools you need.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

How to install a fence in your yard.Fence sections usually come in 8 ft sections and the tools you need are hole digger, water, cement, shovel, level, metal fence poles.Because metal does not rot as fast as wood while in the ground and you should get the poles at least 1 ft and a half higher than the fence sections you get.Because that extra pole height will be going in the ground, tape measure, fence sections, string and property line markers. Before you install a fence. You should find out where your property line is.Thats if you are installing a fence around there.

  2. Step 2

Before installing your fence you need to mark the areas and measure. After figuring out where your property line is.Make your own markers to where the fence will go.What I mean by markers is tall 6 foot stakes you bang into the ground every 10 ft,from one end of where you want the fence to the other.Tie string to the top of the stakes from one marker to the other and on the bottom from one end to the other. This way you will have a straight line for your fence poles.

  3. Step 3

When you dig the holes you need the hole digger. On one end of the property line is where you dig your first hole.Dig each hole about 1 ft and a half deep x 1 ft wide,so when the cement is dry,you will have a nice sturdy fence pole. But measure the fence section length wise and put a mark on the ground for the next hole and pole, before putting the poles in the ground. Its better to measure 2 or more times than having to redo your work.So then you dig the holes, what ever the measurement of the fence section length is on the ground and make sure that string on the ground goes over the center top of the holes, because this is where your poles will go.

  4. Step 4

Now you mix the cement, either you can mix it on the ground or in the wheelbarrow.Dump the dry cement out and mix with water until the cement is mixed all the way.Dig a couple of holes, because one bag is enough for 2 holes. Then get your pole, put the pole in the center of the hole and dump in the cement all around the pole until even with the ground. But make sure the pole is centered and level at the top and the sides. You might need to hold the pole a few minutes until the cement settles a litttle. To help the settling of the cement and get air bubbles out,use a 2x4 to push down the cement.Do the above steps for the other holes and poles.

  5. Step 5

After everything is measured correctly so the fence sections will fit inbetween the poles.check again to make sure the fence sections will fit before the cement totally dries. Then when all the poles are in the holes and every thing is done. The cement usually takes a day to dry. Then the next day you will be able to attach the fence sections to the poles.

  6. Step 6

To install the fence sections, the hardware store sells brackets to screw onto the fence sections and the other end of the brackets have clamps on them to clamp around the pole.
