Flat irons are the secret weapon of anyone who has ever wanted smooth, sleek straight hair. A good-quality flat iron like the Chi can get even the coarsest, kinkiest hair straight if you use it correctly--and "correctly" is the key. Used improperly, even the most expensive flat iron won't produce good results. By following a few simple steps, though, you can get beautiful, straight, healthy-looking hair with a Chi flat iron.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Chi Silk Infusion
  • Comb
  • Chi flat iron
  1. Step 1

Wash your hair before styling. Dirty hair can have product build-up in it, which can damage the ceramic plates on the Chi flat iron as well as weighing down your hair. Be sure to condition your hair well.

  2. Step 2

Rub a little Chi Silk Infusion into your hair and comb it through. This works with the Chi flat iron to help protect your hair from the heat of styling, and ensures a silky, frizz-free finish.

  3. Step 3

Dry your hair thoroughly. There should not be any moisture, which will cause frizz. You don't have to straighten your hair while you're drying it, as the Chi flat iron is designed to straighten even the curliest hair.

  4. Step 4

Divide your hair into sections, using clips if necessary. The size of the sections necessary will vary depending on the length and thickness of your hair as well as the size as the plates on your Chi flat iron. Chi flat irons are available with plates in a variety of sizes between 1 and 2 inches.

  5. Step 5

Press the Chi together with the section of hair between the plates, and run it down the length of the section in a smooth, even stroke. Don't let the iron stay on any part of the hair too long, as that can damage the hair. Repeat this process until all the hair has been ironed flat and smooth.

Tips & Warnings
  • Experiment with running a comb through the sections of hair just ahead of the Chi (comb in one hand, Chi in the other). This takes some practice but can help keep the hair even and smooth.
  • If your hair is prone to frizzing, use a little anti-humidity hair spray after straightening.
  • It is extremely important that the flat iron does not sit on any section of the hair too long, as this can cause damage to the hair.
  • The Chi flat iron gets hot very quickly, so be careful about touching the plates, even a few seconds after turning it on.
