There are several techniques to achieve the backside 180 ollie - here are two of them.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Skate Rails
  • Skateboard Decks
  • Skateboard Helmets
  • Skateboard Pads
  • Skateboard Parts
  • Skateboard Trucks
  • Skateboard Wheels
  • Skateboarding Shoes
  • Skateboards

    The Scoop Method

  1. Step 1

Roll at a comfortable speed on flat ground.

  2. Step 2

Hit your tail as if you were going to do a regular ollie, but begin to turn your shoulders (so your back is forward) as you hit the tail.

  3. Step 3

Let your shoulders lead your body. Your hips will follow and will turn your feet, which will turn the board.

  4. Step 4

Keep your center of gravity over the middle of the board. With the scoop method, the tail of the board stays low to the ground, and you may land a little on your back wheels first.

  5. Step 5

Compress your legs when you have come around the full 180 degrees. This will absorb the shock and will let you be smoother as you roll away.

  6. The Pop Method

  7. Step 1

Roll at a slightly faster speed than for the scoop - this will allow you more time in the air.

  8. Step 2

Pop your tail like you would for a normal ollie, but with more force than for the scoop.

  9. Step 3

Ollie almost straight up into the air, turning only slightly backside. When you reach the peak of your ollie, swivel your hips to direct the rest of the turn.

  10. Step 4

Compress the same way as with the scoop.

Tips & Warnings
  • Skateboarding is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.

on 6/30/2006 Most people do this trick turning 180 in the air and landing on all 4 wheels. Try this:
Ollie turning only about 90ish degrees, but consciously landing on the nose. Your momentum will pivot you the last 90 degrees. This technique may not look as nice, but it is fun. It is good practice for progressing to the full 180 in the air. Oh, and try it frontside - super easy and this way looks great.

on 6/30/2006 Go along at any speed and start to turn in the direction that the nose of your skateboard will be going when you 180. Only turn about 30 degrees, then do a small ollie and pull your board round with your front foot. When landing, lean away from the right hand side of your board (if you are regular stance).

on 6/30/2006 If you lean the way you want to spin before you ollie, your board will automatically twist. Also, make sure you look where you want to land so you know where to jump. Don't just twist your legs, twist your body!

on 11/22/2005 When you heelflip, make sure you have the front foot hanging off the board (so that you have a better rotation) and the back foot should be on the tail - like a ollie. Now just when you ollie, you have to kick your front foot out and jump high so that you could catch the board. Land good, with a soft shock!

on 11/22/2005 To do a kickflip, get your body into an ollie position with one exception; put your front foot up by the bolts. Slam down the back side, and kick off the board, it will rotate. Them just land with it. When in the air, bend your knees to absorb some of the impact on landing.
