Things You'll Need:
- Computer
- Internet Access

Step 1
Record PublicGoogle
I always start any public record search with a Google search. Google is one of the most powerful search engines available and you are sure to find very useful information by searching for terms related to state record, county record, or city records that are free public records. You can use search terms like free public birth records, how to find birth record information, or free vital statistics search. The information you get back will be useful and help you get started in the right direction. -
Step 2
Vital StatisticsThe most valuable information you can find on a certificate of birth is the father's name, the mother's maiden name, and the city, county, and state of birth. This information will allow you to go one step further in your search and find the mother's birth certificate and the father's birth certificate. Each piece you can find to the puzzle will help you go one step further in your search for free public birth records.

Step 3
Records of BirthPay for public information websites
I never pay for public information, but I do use the sites to add to the information that I already have. You can do this by simply using the "Free" preliminary search. You will get results back on the name that you search such as the persons maiden name, age, phone number, address, and even names of possible relatives. You can use this information to fill in any gaps in the vital statistics that you already have. -
Step 4
Birth Child State RecordGenealogy Websites
Subscribing to a Genealogy website has many benefits with access to state birth records, military records, census records, birth records, marriages records, death records, and even international records. You can also use the preliminary search information from these sites if you do not want to purchase a monthly subscription.
One of my favorite Genealogy sites is www.familyserach.org. This site is a nonprofit site that is sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This website is packed full of FREE public birth record information. You can use the site to research public records by location, forms, maps, guides and free online resources and search records and indexes for other valuable public record information.
