A Peacock Feather makes great Mardi Gras Costume Face Art

Mardi Gras costuming widely uses feathers and the colors purple, green and gold. A Peacock Eye feather just might be the perfect image to use in adding a special touch to a Mardi Gras themed costume. It isn't hard to create a feather image with face paint, add a touch of glitter and have a really nice makeup finish for your Mardi Gras costume.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gold Face Paint
  • Green Face paint
  • Purple or Blue Face Paint
  • Black Face Paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Water
  • Glitter (optional)
  1. Step 1
Disguise Stix Face Paint is easy to apply and washes off with water.

Gather all of your supplies, have water ready in a bowl or cup to wet your brush and face paint sticks. I personally really like the Disguise Stix face paints, they are vibrant, go on with water and wash off with water.

  2. Step 2
Start with a Golden Egg shape.
Start with a Golden Egg shape.

Start with Gold Face Paint and paint a egg shape that will be the main part of your peacock feather.

  3. Step 3

Outline your golden egg with a line of green face paint and then mirror the line just inside the golden egg. Don't worry about how thick or thin the line is, just do it! Confidence is everything with face painting, it will work out, you'll see.

  4. Step 4

Draw and fill in a circle at the bottom of your golden egg using either purple or blue face paint (use as vivid a color as you can find). Add a smaller circle within the blue or purple circle using a darker colour or black.

  5. Step 5
Add the wispy part of the feather using green and at least one other color

Add the wisps of the feather starting from the bottom of the egg going upward and radiating from the top of the egg, going straight up. Alternately use green and one of the darker colors or black. Let the paint brush move quickly, the lines do not need to be straight or to have a consistent thickness.

  6. Step 6

Add some glitter dust or gold glitter to the 'eye' of the feather and you're done!

Tips & Warnings
  • Paint with confidence, it will work, you will see.
  • Rest the side of your hand or extend your pinky finger to rest on the face while you are working on sections that need a steady hand.
  • Find Disguise Stix, they are easy to work with and virtually no mess.
