Among all of the great websites that teach you how to make an online radio show, I had found the best platform to work with is one that is sponsored by advertisements. If you listen closely to your favorite stations, you will notice people like Howard Stern will either have sponsors airing on their live show or someone coming in for an interview. In regular radio, that is what supports the radio show. You can even say it supplies the demand when you think about it. Most radio talk show hosts have great content that people will listen to so much, they demand it. In turn, the station acquires more "ad revenue" or sponsors. The same goes with an online radio talk show that you come up with yourself. In this article, I have outlined the necessary steps to create your talk show and set up your "sponsors" or ad revenue shares simultaneously.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A microphone or USB headset
  • Internet connection
  • Basic knowledge of taxation laws for the self employed
  1. Step 1

First, you would need to set up an account with BlogTalkRadio©. The link will be in the resources of this article. Keep these instructions in front of you while going through the process of creating your new account (if need be). What you want to do is sign up for a free talk show; don't just register. If you register only, you will be considered a listener and not a talk show host. So, you want to sign up for a free talk show. You will need to choose a "Display Name" and an "Account Name". The great thing about this step is you can change your Display Name at any time. I love that freedom. The Display Name will become the name of your talk show. Don't worry about trying to come up with the perfect name while signing up. You can always change it later.

  2. Step 2

Go through filling out the essential information you need to fill out in order to open your account. If you are not automatically brought to the link where you sign up for the revenue sharing program, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and under Corporate and you will find the link. Provide your Paypal ID (e-mail you sign in with for Paypal) and proceed to fill out your name, address, etc. At the end of that, you will be brought to a form that asks you for your "Tax Name" (which is your full name your taxes are filed under) and your "Tax ID" (social security number). This is to file for tax returns on the revenue you and your show generate. Believe me, the Internal Revenue Service is cracking down on the self employed who don't file their taxes. If you accept revenue from a platform of any kind, you are considered an affiliate or self employed by Federal Law and BlogTalkRadio© knows this.

  3. Step 3

After you have created your radio talk show station, you're ready to start scheduling your own shows. Through BTR, you will learn how to brand and market your show. This will help you to get a more broad base of listeners for every show you air. Thanks for reading.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are a part of any revenue sharing site you provide content for, be sure to ask them for an "End Of Year" summary or a print out of your W-9 form with your earnings and taxations included. Their negligence should not be your own.
  • Make sure to file all of your earnings as an Affiliate or Sole Proprietor to the Internal Revenue Service. It is the Federal Law.
