Things You'll Need:
- electric screw driver,
- handsaw,
- skill saw,
- tape measure,
- measuring square
-
Step 1
You will cut on the line.First you will need an eight foot long eight by eight . You can use the finished side and have Seven and one half inches storage under your bed or you can arrange it differently to have twelve inches of storage. You will need to cut the eight by eight into eight equal pieces. You need at least eight pieces. You can get nine by cutting them less than one foot. Remember you are raising your bed so don't get carried away or it could wind up pretty high off the floor.
-
Step 2
Make sure your marks are right.Mark the beam all the way around. The skill saw will not cut it all the way through. Turn it over and cut each side staying on the line.
It is a good idea to use a few scrap boards for support while cutting. -
Step 3
It will be easy to finish the cut with the handsaw. After you cut with the skill saw you will finish the cut using a handsaw. You will not have to rotate each side but if the saw binds turn to the opposite side and finish your cut. Do them one at a time .
-
Step 4
Plywood on supports.Water bed frames run around four ,five, or six feet wide and around seven feet long. You will have to measure your frame to get the best fit.
Whatever size your bed is it has to fit on the supports like the drawing. You will need two sheets of 3/4 inch plywood if your bed is larger than a single. -
Step 5
You can cut the plywood using the skill saw. Buy a plywood blade. They are the least expensive and it will be worth the money to get a safe clean cut. Set the blade where it just extends through the plywood an inch or so. People have different preferences but don't try to cut it with the blade all the way down.'
-
Step 6
Use good long screws. You can attach the plywood using one and one half inch screws.
Decking screws will work fine. Four per leg should be enough. This stage will be a lot easier if done on site. (where the bed is going to be) -
Step 7
Make the plywood meet over the supports. If you have to use two sheets of plywood make sure they meet on the top of the eight by eights. They should split it down the middle with the same amount of plywood resting on each side. You can use two screws on each side.
-
Step 8
Plastic storage boxes work great! You should be able to easily slide your storage boxes under the new frame support. The new plastic ones are great for keeping the dust out.
-
Step 9
A simple dust ruffle! You can make or buy a simple dust ruffle to hide your under bed storage area. Set the water bed on top fill it up and sweet dreams.
