Try this recipe for Homemade Macaroni and Stewed Tomatoes for dinner tonight. It's an easy, and healthy alternative to take out food. Just about anyone, using a few simple ingredients, can make this old timed southern favorite for themselves.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • One 16 ounce box of dry elbow macaroni
  • One 28 ounce can of stewed whole tomatoes
  • One cup shredded Colby Jack, or Cheddar or Parmesan Cheese
  • Salt and Black Pepper
  • Large cooking pot
  • Colander
  • Wooden Spoon
  1. Step 1

This is a real simple dinner idea that just about any cook can tackle. Start by cooking the elbow macaroni, on your stove top according to the label directions. Usually about eight to twelve minutes. You want the pasta to be soft, but not mushy. Don’t forget to drain it well using a colander.

  2. Step 2

Then return the macaroni to the same pan and add in the can of stewed tomatoes. You may have to take a heavy spoon or spatula and chop the tomatoes into smaller pieces so that they will be more evenly distributed throughout the dish.

  3. Step 3

Now, return the pan to the stove top and heat while stirring until everything is hot. Dump your macaroni and tomatoes into a serving dish and top with the cup of shredded cheese. Add salt and pepper to your liking and you are sure to have a dish that the whole family will enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use any kind of canned tomatoes that you want; even tomato sauce would be good.
  • Leave off the shredded cheese for a cheaper and healthier dinner dish.
  • This recipe for macaroni and stewed tomatoes serves four to five people and costs less than one dollar per serving.
