How to Use a Password Reset Disk With Windows XP

It is highly recommended that you create a password reset disk for Windows XP just in case you forget your password. It can be time consuming if you can't remember your password, which would prevent you from retrieving any data. A password reset disk can save time and aggravation.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Blank formatted floppy disk
  1. Step 1

    Log in to your computer, using the administrator account.

  2. Step 2

    Click on the start button and choose "Settings." Click on the control panel.

  3. Step 3

    Find the "Users Account" icon from the control panel and double click on it. Then choose the "Administrator Account" icon.

  4. Step 4

    Look under "Related Tasks" option which is within the user account profile.

  5. Step 5

    Choose "Prevent a Forgotten Password." When the forgotten password box come up click "Next."

  6. Step 6

    Put the Floppy disk in the drive.The next box will say "Create a Password Reset Disk" and ask you to insert your blank formatted disk in your floppy drive. Click the "Next" button.

  7. Step 7

    Type in your password at the "Current User Account Password Box " and click "Next." The forgotten password wizard create the disk. Click "Next" when done.

  8. Step 8

    Click finish when the forgotten password wizard box prompts you to do so.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your system does not have a floppy disk drive, you can purchase a USB enabled external floppy disk drive from an electronics retailer or on the web.
  • This disk is your system password and should be kept in a safe place.
