Making your own gel paints is an inexpensive and easy family project. This gel paint recipe uses all natural ingredients that can be found in most kitchens. The gel paints only take a few minutes to make and can be used with paint brushes or as non-toxic finger paints.

  • 4 cups of water 1 cup cornstarch ½ cup of sugar Food coloring Small saucepan Small jars or cups Popsicle sticks

Instructions

    • 1

      Combine the water, cornstarch and sugar in the small saucepan.

      Heat the mixture on the stove over a low flame.

    • 3

      Stir constantly until the mixture begins to gel.

    • 4

      Pour ½ to ¾ cup of the mixture into each of the small jars.

    • 5

      Drop three to four drops of food coloring into each of the jars.

    • 6

      Stir the coloring into the gel paints using the Popsicle sticks.

    • 7

      Place the jars in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes or until the paints are the consistency of loose Jello.

    • 8

      Remove the gel paints from the refrigerator and begin painting.
