How to Setup a PS3 Network
Getting a network connection set up on your PlayStation 3 will allow you to access many different features that the PS3 has to offer. With an Internet connection, you can sign up for PlayStation Network, buy games and movies off the PlayStation Store and play games online. Sony provides PlayStation Network as a free service to those who have a PlayStation 3. An Internet connection also allows you access to PlayStation Home, a virtual world filled with other PlayStation 3 users.

Determine your connection type. Older PS3s come with Ethernet only, while the newer versions have wireless and/or Ethernet.

Turn on your PS3. Navigate through the cross-media bar to the Settings tab. Scroll down to the bottom of the list. Press the "X" button to select "Network Settings."

Scroll down to the "Internet Connection Settings." Press the "X" on the controller. You are now ready to set up your PS3 network.

Highlight "Easy" with the d-pad in the Select a Setting Method screen. Push the right key, and the PlayStation 3 will automatically detect your network connection. Press the "X" button.

Press the "X" button again to test the connection. Wait approximately 30 seconds while the PS3 runs the test. When the test is a success, press the "Circle" button on the controller.

Tips & Warnings
Do not forget to turn your wireless router on or plug the Ethernet cable into your PlayStation 3. Unless you have advance knowledge of network settings, do not attempt to manually configure the PS3 network. If the connection test was a failure, there is a problem with your Internet connection. Contact your ISP.
