How to Clean an Aveo Engine Bay

When an Aveo rolls off the production line, every crevice of the engine bay is clean, and every part is shiny and new. Over time, dirt and grease can accumulate, and the engine bay can look old and worn out.
With a few minutes of your time, you can easily make the entire engine bay shine like it's brand-new again. Commercial spray-and-rinse engine degreaser makes this a quick job that is usually over in less than 30 minutes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Engine degreaser Water hose Vinyl protectant spray Paper towels Plastic bag
  1. Step 1

Cover the fuse box with a plastic bag. This is the black box located directly behind the battery. Though the car has been designed to withstand a minimal amount of water entering the engine bay, this is just a precaution to ensure it doesn't become flooded.

  2. Step 2

Rinse off the entire engine bay using a garden hose. Shake the can of engine degreaser well, and thoroughly cover all of the engine bay with a thick layer. Allow it to set for 5 minutes before moving to the next step. If the engine is heavily soiled, let it soak for another 5 minutes to ensure a more thorough cleaning.

  3. Step 3

Rinse the Aveo's engine bay using the garden hose. As the degreaser is rinsed off, the dirt and grime will wash away, leaving a clean surface behind. Completely rinse the engine to avoid leaving a film behind. A high-pressure nozzle attachment makes this job go quicker.

  4. Step 4

Spray the exposed plastic and hoses with a vinyl protectant spray, and wipe it off with a paper towel. This will not only restore the new, shiny look of the engine components, but it will also leave behind a protective coating that will keep the parts from warping or fading over time.

Tips & Warnings
  • To make this job easier, use a manual coin-operated car wash wand to blast away the grime.
  • Never clean an engine that is still running.
