How to Make Detox Foot Pads

Using natural herbs can be a good way to help cleanse the body of the toxins accumulated from the food that we eat and the environment in which we live. None of us can avoid toxins altogether, so give your body a fighting chance to be healthier and more energetic by creating a way to detoxify at home. Here is how to get started.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather your supplies. You will need thick gauze pads, medical tape and some plastic wrap from the kitchen.

    • 2

Decide which herbs to use. There are many herbs which have detoxifying properties. Some of these include chamomile, red clover, nettle and lavender. If you are on other medications, are pregnant or nursing, or have any other medical conditions, do some research and talk to your doctor before using the herbs to be sure that they are safe for you.

    • 3

Make an herbal infusion from the herbs you have gathered. Use about 1/2 cup of dried or about 1 cup of fresh herbs. If using fresh, tear or cut the herbs to help them release their juices. Pour 8 oz. of almost boiling water over the herbs, cover with a tight lid, and let sit for at least one hour. Strain the herbs out of the infusion.

    • 4

Soak the gauze pads in the herbal infusion for 10 to 20 minutes.

    • 5

Remove the gauze pads and wring out just enough to keep them from dripping.

    • 6

Cut out a strip of plastic wrap large enough to wrap around your foot once and completely cover the gauze pad.

    • 7

Place one gauze pad over your foot and place the plastic wrap over it--it should be firm but not tight.

    • 8

Use the medical tape to hold the gauze and wrap in place as needed.

    • 9

Leave the detox foot pad on for a few hours or overnight (depends on the strength of the herbs you use). Remove and discard the foot pad in the morning.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you made extra foot pads, remove them from the infusion, wring out, and let dry thoroughly. Store in an airtight container. You can use them later, (dampen with warm water first), though they won't be as potent as the freshly made pads.

  • Do research on the herbs you use. Herbs have powerful properties and some are not safe for those with certain conditions, such as pregnancy or chronic illness. Herbs may interact with other medications. Check with your healthcare provider first.
