How to Make a Bed Roll

For many years bedrolls have been used in place of a bed. Pioneers, cowboys, campers, and hunters have all used bedrolls. But you don't need to go out into the wilderness to use a bedroll. One can also be used for sleepovers and camping out in your backyard.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin by taking a poncho and laying it on the ground.

    • 2

Lay a blanket with one edge in the middle of the poncho.

    • 3

Take another blanket with one of the edges at the center of the first blanket.

    • 4

Alternate any remaining blankets as above. In the middle of the blankets, place a bedsheet folded in half lengthwise.

    • 5

If clothes are to be packed, now is the time to do it. Place pants, shirts, underwear and socks at the ends of the blankets. Do not place them in the center, especially if the bedroll is going to be carried, as you would on a camping trip, due to the weight..

    • 6

Fold the blankets starting with the last; alternate in reverse order until all the blankets are over the middle. Pin the bottom with safety pins.

    • 7

Fold the poncho over and pin all the three corners together with a safety pin. Tie a rope around the bedroll for easy carrying.

Tips & Warnings

  • Old blankets are perfect for bedrolls. If a poncho is not available, use a squared bed sheet or canvas and fold in half crosswise to make a triangle.
