Many baseball and softball youth, high school and adult leagues now require each batting helmet to be equipped with a face mask to reduce the risk of serious injury. Should you decide to remove the face mask from your batting helmet to replace it with another model or different color, or simply want to fasten your current face mask onto another helmet, the process is fairly easy.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Phillips head screwdriver Bag for face mask hardware
  1. Step 1

Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws. An electric screwdriver is a good option for used face masks, whose screws can be hard to loosen. Face masks for batting helmets are fastened with at least two screws and at least one on each side.

  2. Step 2

Rotate the screwdriver in a counter-clockwise motion until each screw is loose enough to remove.

  3. Step 3

Pull the screws away from the holes to which they were fastened. Remove any plastic clips, if your brand of face mask is equipped with them, by sliding them from under the face mask's holes for the screws.

  4. Step 4

Lift the face mask from the helmet. Save the screws and any other hardware from the face mask should you choose to use it at a later time.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you decide to add a new face mask to your current helmet, or fasten your current face mask onto a different helmet, make sure the helmet and face mask are compatible. Different brands will not always have a universal fit. Even helmets and face masks of the same brand do not ensure a universal fit. This may require purchasing additional hardware, helmets or face masks.
