How to Replace the Cabin Air Filter on Audi A3
Do you enjoy driving your sporty Audi A3 but find that you have trouble breathing lately when you are driving? It could very well be due to a dirty cabin air filter. Filters should be changed at least annually. And if you live in areas that are higher in pollution or dust, you might consider changing the air filter more often. Regular maintenance can prevent poor engine performance and breathing dirty air inside the cabin of your Audi A3.

Remove the cowling cover from rear of the engine compartment that covers the firewall. The cowling is secured with screws to the frame of the vehicle. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws and set the cowling off to the side.

Locate the cabin air filter compartment on the left side of the firewall, next to the heater fan. The air filter is 6-by-9 inches in size and 2 inches thick. It should be mounted vertically against the firewall. Remove the cover by using a screwdriver to lightly unfasten the lid.

Remove the cabin air filter from the compartment. Clean out the compartment by vacuuming out any dust. Wipe it down with a clean damp cloth.

Replace the old cabin air filter with the new filter and make sure filter is seated properly. Secure the lid on the filter compartment, making sure the pins snap into place.

Reattach the cowling cover over the firewall with screws. Remove all tools from the engine compartment.

Not sure what year A3 the above instructions we're for. But my 2006 A3 cabin air filter is underneath the passenger glove compartment. No tools necessary. Unscrew the two plastic thumb screws holding the foam cover against the firewall. You'll see on the left of the footwell a rectangular plastic lid that you slide to the outside almost an inch. Pull out filter and replace. Slide back in the cover and screw back in the foam cover and you're done! -
