You do not need a professional lock pick kit to pick locks if you understand how to create one out of everyday household items. A lock pick is an important device tool of the trade. An Allen wrench can easily be made into a lock pick with the help of a few simple tools.

Things You'll Need:

  • Allen wrench Vice with clamps Gloves Goggles Small grinder File Cloth
  1. Step 1

    Find an Allen wrench the appropriate size for the type of lock you are picking. The smaller the lock, the smaller the size of the Allen wrench you will need.

  2. Step 2
    Electric grinder
    Electric grinder

    Put on gloves and protective goggles. Attach the Allen wrench tightly to the vice on the point farthest from the "L" shape of the wrench.

  3. Step 3

    Use the grinder to flatten the width of the "L" top of the Allen wrench just a couple of millimeters at a time, until it is small enough to fit the keyhole.

  4. Step 4

    Smooth off rough edges using the file.

  5. Step 5

    Wipe the new lock pick down with a damp cloth. Insert the file Allen wrench into the lock to see if it fits.

  • Always be careful when working with power tools and sharp materials Always wear protective gear when working with power tools. Lock picking is illegal if it isn't your lock or you don't have permission. Possession of locksmith tools is illegal in many states unless you are a professional.
