How to Install a Fax Machine

Faxing documents is not only a quick way to transfer data from person to person, but it also provides verification that a document has been sent and received. A multi-purpose fax machines can also be used to scan and copy documents. This article describes the steps to install an Epson Stylus CX9400 fax machine.

Instructions

1. Plug the three-pronged end of the power cord into a wall outlet. Plug the other end of the power cord into the back of the fax machine. Press the "Power" button to start the machine. Set the country, language and time options. Press "OK" after you finish setting the options.

2. Lift the scanner lid. Remove the covering from the top of the printer cartridges. Insert the printer cartridges inside the color-coded cartridge case. Close the cartridge case then click "OK" on the fax machine's front panel.

3. Place the Epson Stylus CD into your computer CD drive. Follow the steps that load onto your computer monitor to install the fax machine software.

4. Insert one end of the USB cable into the back of your multi-purpose fax machine. Insert the other end of the USB cable into the back of your computer. Click "Finish" to complete the software installation.

5. Insert the telephone cable from the wall jack to the "Line" port at the back of the Epson Stylus fax machine. Plug a DSL filter into the wall jack if the telephone line is connected to DSL.

6. Press "Setup" to configure the machine for use with an answering machine. Choose "Fax Settings," then press "OK." Choose "Communication" then press "OK." Choose "Rings to Answer" and then press the forward arrow icon. Set the number of rings for the answering machine then press "OK."

7. Create a fax header by pressing "Setup" on the fax machine front panel. Choose "Fax Settings" then press "OK." Choose "Header & Time" then press "OK." Choose "Fax Header" then press "OK."Use the number pad to enter the header info then click "OK" when you are finished.

8. Choose "Your Phone Number" to set your telephone number. Press "OK" after the header and time menu pops up. Use the number pad to input your telephone number. Press "OK" to finish.
