How to Make Shed Ramps
Most sheds rest a few inches to a foot off of the ground. This makes it difficult to store things, specifically a riding lawnmower. Having a shed ramp can make chores a little easier, and allow people not to hurt their backs through the continued lifting of things over the shed threshold. It does not take a professional carpenter to make a shed ramp. People can complete this handy addition to a shed in the matter of minutes.
Things You'll Need
- Four 2-by-8 inch boards 1 sheet of plywood Miter box and saw Measuring tape Hammer Nails
Instructions
-
-
1
Measure the distance from the ground to the top of the shed's threshold.
-
2
Cut three 2-by-8 inch pieces of wood to the correct height that you just measured.
-
-
3
Cut each piece of wood at a 45-degree angle using the miter box.
-
4
Measure the width of the shed doors opening.
-
5
Cut the fourth piece of wood the correct width of the door opening, and the correct height that you measured in Step 1.
-
6
Nail the three 2-by-8s you cut in Step 2 to the one piece of 2-by-8 you cut in Step 5. The piece of wood in Step 5 should be the back support for the three pieces of wood from Step 2.
-
7
Cut the piece of plywood the correct width and length so that it will cover the supports completely without any overhang. Nail the piece of plywood to the top of the supports using three nails on each board.
-
8
Slide the new ramp up to the shed for use. You can attach the ramp to the shed, however, allowing the ramp to be removable could avoid having to detach it in the future.
