How to Make a Practice Drum Pad
A practice pad is the most essential piece of equipment in a drummer's life. This practice pad is where the fundamentals begin. This pad allows a drummer to practice quietly and efficiently. However, practice pads can be very expensive, especially the good ones. This article will give you some ideas on how to build one at a very low cost.

Getting Started

1
Find a good rubber surface for the bouncing part of your practice pad. Check the local dollar store. A mouse pad will work fine, but is a little thin. Look around for something that is thicker. Bring along a drum stick and test out the rubber. If it is quiet and bounces, then you have a good surface.

2
Find a good solid piece of wood that is at least an inch thick. The width can be anything you want it to be; just make sure the wood is level.

3
Now put a generous amount of glue on the back of the bounce surface and put it onto the wood. Make sure the bounce surface is centered. Press hard on the surface and make sure it is level. Let sit for a couple of hours.

Congratulations--you have just made a homemade practice pad. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
Make sure not to use to much glue or it will run out from under the bounce surface.
Put something flat and heavy on top of the bounce surface to help it dry evenly.
Paint your wood a color you like to personalize it.

Where do I get the foam rubber? Nobody in my area seems to carry it (tried craft stores, hardware stores, carpet stores). Anywhere to buy online?
