Instructions

  1. How to Make a Kegerator

    • 1

First, consider the type of kegerator that you want to make. The two main types of kegerators include the mini fridge style and the upright type. The mini fridge is the most popular since it takes up the least amount of room. However, if you're looking for a kegerator that can serve multiple varieties of beer, then you may want to consider the upright type. This kind can include an ice maker as well as several taps holding different types of beer.

Next, purchase a conversion kit to make your kegerator. Most kits come with a CO2 tank with regulator, coupler, surgical tubing for taps, a tap, tower, drip tray, shank, handle and draft spigot. Besides the conversion kit, you will need a fridge for your kegerator. The size of fridge that you choose will depend on the room that you have for the kegerator and the amount of beer that you want to store in it.

    • 3

Empty the fridge for your kegerator. Since fridges are different sizes, you will have to determine where to drill your holes by choosing areas that will allow the lines to pass through without affecting the ability to close the fridge or compress the beer or gas lines.

    • 4

Next, get an electric drill and make a centered hole 1/8 inch in diameter through the inside of the door. It should go all the way through.

    • 5

Then drill a 1 inch diameter hole outside of the door to make room for the faucet. You are then going to drill another hole about 3 inches onto the inside of the door in order to fit the shank. As far as drill depth, you are going to continue until you drilled clean through the fridge door. Tighten the shank with the provided nuts. Use the mounting holes provided with the drip tray to mount it with a Phillips head screwdriver.

Finally, make a shelf within the kegerator to hold the kegs that you will use with the fridge. Then, connect your CO2 to the regulator and hook the CO2 line to the tap. Continue by hooking up, the beer line to the faucet and keg tap.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember to clean the fridge before you convert it into a kegerator. You should also purchase beer line cleaner in order to regularly maintain your lines between kegs. Remember to practice caution when handling the CO2 tank. Follow all manufacturer's instructions on how to safely replace the CO2 when you are low.
