How to Delete Windows XP Tour

Sick of seeing the Windows XP Tour prompt when you start XP? Most computer experts agree that deleting the tour files is not the answer, and that even if you are seeking to free up some space, the files are far too small to risk corrupting the operating system. The alternative is to disable the tour, which can be facilitated with a simple registry edit.

Instructions

1. Before you edit the registry, save a backup copy of the current registry.

2. Click "Start," and then "Run." This will open the command prompt.

3. Type "regedit" into the command prompt window.

4. Find the following file "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Tour."

5. Double click the "RunCount DWORD" value.

6. In the Value Data box, Enter "0" and click "OK."

7. Close out of the registry editor.

8. Restart Windows XP.
