How to Make Dog Weight Pulling Sleds
To train your dog for competition or just to give him some excercise, nothing beats a weight pulling sled. With some conventional dog equipment and a little time, you can make one yourself.

1
Cut the ends of each 2-by-4 piece of wood with a mitre saw making 45-degree slopes at each end. The slopes should be going the opposite way from each other. The goal is to make them "ski-like."
-
2
Cut plywood into planks measuring 6 by 30 inches. Nail planks to "skis" making a wooded sled.
-
-
3
Use remaining plywood to make a small ledge at the rear of the sled. This will help hold any load or weight you apply later.
-
4
Drill a 1-inch hole in the middle of the first and last plywood plank. Feed one end of your rope through the hole to the rear of the sled. Tie-off or clamp the rope in place (which can be used in securing larger loads during training).
-
5
Screw cup hooks into either side of the sled at the opposite end of the ledge.
-
6
Attach each leash to the hooks and to the pulling harness.
-
7
Add weight to the sled and secure with the rope or against the ledge.

Tips & Warnings
Any dog harness will work. Pulling harnesses allows the dog to pull using larger muscles, more like competition pulling.
