Computers are often taken for granted until they act up. When major problems occur that can't be fixed with troubleshooting, the final resort is to do a system restore. System restores are often done by inserting a recovery disc that came with the Dell computer. However, many Dell models have "System Recovery" built into the computer, making the recovery disc unnecessary.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dell PC with System Restore installed at factory
  1. Step 1

With your computer on, click on "Start" on your desktop. Click on "All Programs."

  2. Step 2

Click on "Accessories," then "System Tools," then "System Restore."

  3. Step 3

Highlight the option of "Restore My Computer to an Earlier Time," and then select "Next."

  4. Step 4

Select a date to use as an earlier restore point from the calendar of restore points that appears. The available restore points are highlighted in bold print. After selecting a restore point, click "Next."

  5. Step 5

Wait while the system restoration process happens. This will take some time, but when it is complete, a screen will appear that says the System Restore is complete. The Dell computer will then restart itself. Do not interfere with its restart.

  6. Step 6

When the computer boots back up, click "OK," and you are ready to be connected once again.

Tips & Warnings
  • When restoring your Dell computer, pick a restore point that is from a time when you know there were no technical issues with the PC.
  • Before doing a restore, back up all data and photos you want to keep just in case there is a problem with the restore and the system needs a complete reset. If system restore does not fix your problem, contact a Dell tech support representative.
