Start by closely examining the surface of the wall that will have the logo on it.

An ideal wall for a logo will be perfectly flat and free of cracks. Uneven surfaces should be sanded down with a belt sander or sandpaper. Holes and cracks should be filled in with putty and then sanded down. If you have a particularly uneven surface allow at least a day to make these repairs and examine the results.

Clean the wall after you've completed any repairs. Cleaning can be accomplished with industrial solvents such as trisodium phosphate. Wear rubber gloves and other safety equipment when handling potentially dangerous chemicals.

If the wall has intricate woodwork or other detailing use a small brush to make careful cleaning easier. Spread canvas on the ground to avoid soiling the floor.

Give the wall a fresh coat of paint before you paint any logo on top of it. The type of paint you choose will depend on where the wall is located (indoors or outdoors). You'll also want to use a primer.

If you're working with an outdoor wall you'll want to use paint that will stand to the elements for a long time. Good choices include oil based paints, latex paints and alkyd paints. An indoor surface can also be painted with these kinds of paints.

Either draw your logo freehand on the wall using pencil or use a transparency and an overhead projector to trace the logo onto the wall. If your logo is simple and easy to draw you may not want to bother with an overhead projector.

If the logo in question is more complicated you can use the transparency and overhead projector method. To do this you will need to create a transparency of the logo. You can draw one yourself or have it made at most office supply stores.

Use painter's tape to mark out the image on the wall. The painter's tape will help prevent different paint colors from bleeding into each other. Let one color dry before starting another color. You can also use stenciling paints. Stenciling paints dry quickly and do not drip. Pull off the tape and admire your finished results.
