The GE Profile dishwasher is one of the premier dishwashers offered by GE. It has received strong reviews from consumers, but there are always opportunities to troubleshoot problems. Below are some common problems that may occur with the dishwasher and how to fix them.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine if the buttons on the touchpad are working. If none of the buttons are activating the controls on the dishwasher, you may have the control lock on. To turn to the off position, press and hold the heated dry pad for 5 seconds--this should unlock the button pad, allowing you to continue using the dishwasher.

  2. Step 2

Check to see if you're using the right amount of detergent. Make sure you are using a rinsing agent like Jet Dry, and double check your water temperature. Your temperature should be at least 120 degrees F or it will not sufficiently rinse the dishes. Pull apart the bottom spray arm by rotating it counterclockwise. Look underneath, and if there are food particles in the two spray jets, clean those out.

  3. Step 3

Use the correct detergent. Check your manual, and never use handwashing detergent that you'd use in the sink. If you have water leaking from the front of the dishwasher, you have probably improperly loaded dishes--make sure the dishwasher is not overloaded and that the dishes are properly arranged in the racks.

  4. Step 4

Load your dishes correctly according to your manual. If you have noise coming from the dishwasher, it may not be lying flat. Check all corners of the unit to make sure its not dislodged and then place a level on the dishwasher to ensure it's level on your floor. If this does not clear up any noise, contact a professional.

  5. Step 5

Listen for a thumping or bumping noise. This generally means that the inlet valve needs to be changed.
