How to Make a Curtain Room Divider
Curtain room dividers are a wonderful way to separate rooms with no door. They provide privacy and help keep a room warm and cozy during the winter and cool in the summer by blocking out drafts from heated and air conditioned rooms. They are made up of simple construction and if sewn with two different fabrics, you can match the decor in the room it is facing. Things You'll Need
- Fabric (determined by size of door opening) Lining fabric (determined by size of door opening) Sewing machine Scissors Measuring tape Hand sewing needle and thread Straight pins Iron and ironing board 1 inch by 2 inch pine board (length determined by size door opening) Jig saw Wood stain Paint brush Metal coat hooks (number determined by size door opening) Hardware and tools to attach hooks and rack

Measure the top of the door frame and add 4 inches. Cut the 1 inch by 2 inch pine board using this measurement. Stain the wood and allow to dry. Space and mount the hooks approximately 6 inches apart on the pine board. Mount the hook rack above the door with 2 inches extended on each side of the frame.

Measure 2 inches below the hooks and to the floor plus 1 inch for the length measurement. Cut a piece of curtain room divider fabric for the front using this measurement for the length and the hook rack measurement for the width. Cut a piece of lining or backing fabric for your curtain room divider using the same measurements.

Cut a strip of fabric for each hook installed on the rack, 3 inches wide by 8 inches long. Fold the strips in half lengthwise and pin. Sew the pinned edge using a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Turn the tabs right side out and press.

Lay the curtain room divider front right side up on your work surface. Fold the tabs in half matching the short raw edges. Place the tabs on the room divider front and pin with the raw edges up and matching the edge of the room divider front. Measure and match the distance on the curtain the same as the hook distance on the rack.

Place the curtain room divider lining right side down on the room divider front. Match and pin the raw edges. Sew a 1/2 inch seam allowance around the entire curtain room divider leaving a 4 inch opening for turning on one side.

Turn the curtain room divider right side out and press. Hand sew the opening closed.

Hang the loops on your hook rack.
