Instructions

    • 1

Clean the bottle of any residue, using dish soap if necessary. The bamboo skewers need to stick out of the top of the bottle, so choose your bottle and skewer sizes accordingly.

    • 2

Cut one quarter of an inch off each end of the bamboo skewers that you will be using in the reed diffuser. Cutting the ends will make the bamboo skewers more porous and ready to accept the fragrance oil.

    • 3

Pour a quarter of an inch of almond oil into the bottom of the bottle. The almond oil will work as a "carrier oil" that will act as a wick, and draw the liquid potpourri up into the bamboo skewers.

    • 4

Fill the bottle up to three quarters with liquid potpourri. If using a clear bottle, choose a liquid potpourri with the same color as your décor.

    • 5

Insert the bamboo skewers into the bottle, and tie a decorative ribbon around the bottle's neck for a decorative look. Display in an area that will benefit from the scented reed diffuser's scent.

Tips & Warnings

  • Bamboo skewers can be easily found in the neighborhood grocery store, but if you prefer to use actual reeds, they can be purchased online. Remove the reeds and flip them around at least once a week inside the bottle to keep the fragrance flowing. If you are using a bottle that has a slimmer neck, try using a funnel to add the oil and fragrance to avoid messes. Use essential oils instead of liquid potpourri if your prefer. To do this, fill the bottle halfway with almond oil and add drops of essential oil until your desired strength of fragrance is reached.

  • Scented reed diffusers can be easily tipped, and the contents can spill all over your furniture and floors. Depending on what is used to color the oil, staining can result. Display the diffuser out of the reach of animals and children.
