GE Potscrubber Dishwasher Troubleshooting

The GE Potscrubber dishwasher series has received strong reviews from consumers. However, troubleshooting any appliance can be challenging and even frustrating. Here are a few common problems with the dishwasher and the ways you can fix them at home.

1. Determine if water is not draining out of the dishwasher tub. If you have standing water, you may have a drainage problem. If so, check to see if your kitchen sink is draining well. If not, a plumber may be needed to clear a clog. If you have an air gap between the tub and the drain, make sure to clean this area.

2. If your dishes will not dry in your dishwasher, check your rinse detergent compartment. This is where you would put agents like Jet Dry to give your dishes a sparkle in the rise cycle. However, if this compartment is clogged, you must clean it, as it is preventing your dry cycle from working correctly.

3. If you have spots on your dishes, the possible causes are: hard water; the dishwasher overloading; old detergent, a missing rinse agent; and too little detergent. Take proper steps every time you run your dishwasher to avoid spotting. Use trial and error with rinse agents, different detergents and different water temperatures (especially if you have hard water) to determine the best way to clean your dishes.

4. Determine if you have a yellow or brown stain covering your dishes. This happens due to iron deposits from extremely hard water. If you do have this, you'll need a special filter to catch this iron before it reaches your dishes. You'll need to contact a water-softening company for installation.
