The Canon I560S is a color inkjet printer that is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. The I560S is capable of printing at resolutions up to 4800 x 1200 dpi, and can handle a variety of media, including card stock, photo paper, envelopes and transparencies. If you no longer have the software that came with your Canon I560S, you will still be able to install the printer by downloading the necessary drivers directly from the Canon website. The procedure for installing your printer in this way is very straightforward and it should be ready for use in a matter of minutes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

    Installation

  1. Step 1

Open your web browser and navigate to the support page for the Canon I560S (see Resources below). Select your operating system from the drop-down menu and click on the link that appears under "Drivers." Note the location of the saved file.

  2. Step 2

Remove all tape and packaging materials from the Canon I560S. Plug one end of the power cord into the power port located on the rear-right side of the printer; plug the remaining end of the power cord into an electrical outlet. Press the power button.

  3. Step 3

Open the print carriage cover and wait for the print head holder to move into view. Note the serial number to the right of the print head holder; record this number for future use.

  4. Step 4

Raise the locking lever on the print head holder. Remove the print head from its packaging and place it into the print head holder; lower the locking lever until the print head locks into place. Remove the print cartridges from their packaging and install them in the print head (use the markings on the print head holder as a guide); apply pressure to each cartridge until they click into place.

  5. Step 5

Close the print carriage cover; allow the printer to clean the print cartridges, then pull out the paper input tray and paper output tray as far as they will go. If installing your printer onto a Windows machine, turn off the printer now; if using a Macintosh, leave the printer on. Use the USB cable to connect the printer to your computer.

  6. Step 6

Run the previously-downloaded installation software. Follow the onscreen directions. When prompted to register your printer, refer to the serial number you wrote down. Once this process is complete, your printer is ready for use.

Tips & Warnings
  • The paper guide on the left side of the paper input tray is marked with a white line; this line indicates how much paper you can put in the tray without risking a paper jam.
  • The Canon I560S does not come with a USB cable; you will have to provide your own. When handling the print head, avoid touching the copper contacts.
