For those running a website or online event, a chat room can be a great way to bring many parties together in one space. Free services exist that allow organizers to utilize Java chat technology in a private discussion space. By using a service like Bravenet, a user can set up a membership to use a free chat room that's available 24/7.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Web browser with Java and Javascript enabled
  1. Step 1

Browse to Bravenet by clicking on the link in the Resources section. Click on the button on the left side of the screen that says "Get Your Chat Room."

  2. Step 2

Click on the button that says "Join Bravenet Now" to go to the membership screen.

  3. Step 3

Fill in all requested information using a valid email address; you'll need to validate your membership momentarily. Read the terms of service and click on the box to verify agreement.

  4. Step 4

Wait for a verification email from Bravenet. This will contain a link that opens the free chat room for use and sets up your membership.

  5. Step 5

To run the chat, be sure your browser runs Java and Javascript. If in doubt, check your web browser's "Options" panel under the "Tools" menu to check that they're activated. Firefox users with a No Script plug-in will have to enable Bravenet.com as an approved site.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bravenet chat rooms can also be embedded on your site and fully customized to fit the look of any page. Other features include international language support and a custom launch page. All of these are free perks with the complimentary Bravenet membership.
