1
Saw the sections of PVC pipe, which can be purchased from any major hardware or plumbing supply store. Make all cuts so you will have a large section of pipe left over for replacement parts.
-
2
Cut from one of the 10-foot-long pieces. Make two 4-foot sections and one 2-foot section. Using the second piece of 10-foot pipe, cut five 2-foot pieces. With the final piece of pipe, cut two 3-foot pieces.

Assemble the parts. The 2-foot sections will act as lower legs and feet for the stand connected, with a tee fitting--when upright, this will form an inverted T. Next, assemble a 3-foot piece between the top of the 2-foot lower legs. Use a tee fitting here as well. This will form one of two cross pieces. Place your two 4-foot sections above the legs by inserting them into the tee fitting. These are your uprights. Lastly, fit your two elbows on top of the uprights, and fit your final 3-foot crosspiece on top.

4
Drill holes into both of the 4-foot uprights, 1 foot down from the top and 1 foot up from the bottom, in between the 3-foot cross pieces. Drill outside to inside the target area. Insert eye bolts into the holes, eyes facing into the target area. Assemble the washers and bolts on the outside These will support your cardboard target.
-
5
Cut the string in half. Tie one end through an eye bolt and tie a knot. Draw it through the other eyebolt. Return the string to the first eye bolt and tie another knot. This will double up your string supports, holding your target a bit more firmly. String pieces should hang horizontally, lower eye bolt to lower eye bolt, for example.

6
Attach the binder clips, one on the top string and one on the bottom. Then attach the cardboard target to each of these clips.

Tips & Warnings
This frame will hold a 3-by-3 foot piece of cardboard near eye level. Building this target stand will take about 30 minutes. The stand can be easily carried by one person and is compact enough to store behind the seat of a car. This stand is ideal for light winds, and stakes are not needed. For studier construction, use pipe glue, though repairing will be more difficult.
