RSS feeds started to gain widespread use on the Internet in 2005 and 2006. An RSS feed is a standardized XML-based formatted feed to reference text, meta data and published articles, videos and images on the Web. You can set up RSS alerts to automatically update your Web browsers and other applications with updated information and news from your favorite websites.

      Navigate your Web browser to the website for which you want to create an RSS alert. Websites capable of producing RSS alerts will have the RSS feed logo above on the page enabled for creating a feed.

      Select the RSS feed menu option on a website.

      Select the "RSS News Feed" menu button for the desired website.

      After selecting the "RSS News Feed" menu button, you will be prompted to choose a subscription method for the RSS alert. Options provided for subscribing to RSS Alerts are: Live Bookmarks, Bloglines, My Yahoo and Google. Click the "Subscribe Now" button after choosing the method of subscription to the RSS alert.

      View the live RSS feed in the Web browser by selecting the bookmark or subscription Web service chosen in Step 3. RSS alerts will update in real-time after the subscription is completed.
