How to Change Brake Pads on a Motorcycle

How the brakes on your motorcycle perform can mean a safer and more exciting ride. The brake pads should be fresh to maintain a proper level of stopping power. Changing the brake pads on your motorcycle while important, is relatively easy

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pliers
  1. Step 1

    Support the motorcycle on the center stand.

  2. Step 2

    Rotate the retaining pins to get to the loop end of the retaining clips. Remove the clips with pliers.

  3. Step 3

    Tap the brakes gently. The pads will fall from the caliper. Push the pistons back into their bores.

  4. Step 4

    Insert the new pads. Avoid touching the pad faces when possible.

  5. Step 5

    Reinstall the retaining pins and clips. Pump the brakes until they are firm.

  6. Step 6

    Check the master-cylinder fluid level to make sure the brake fluid is at the proper level.
