How to Decorate for a Camouflage Wedding

Camouflage is growing more popular as a wedding theme

Camouflage weddings are becoming increasingly popular. From military couples to those wanting a less-than-conventional wedding, this low-cost and unique wedding theme is actually fun to plan for. One of the best parts of having a camouflage wedding is the decorating process. Many prospective couples make a day of it, inviting family and friends to help deck the halls, the backyard or even the barn for their camouflage wedding.

Things You'll Need

• Camouflage fabric (several yards) Camouflage party packs (cups, napkins, plates, etc.) Olive green and tan balloons Helium tank Olive green and tan crepe paper Camouflage helmets Dark netting Artificial bushes, trees and branches Staple gun Thumbtacks Fake leaves Fireplace wood Votive candles Power drill with attachments Olive green and tan ribbon Packaging tape

Instructions

1. Determine exactly where the wedding and reception will be held. Arrange for availability at least 24 hours ahead of the wedding date. Gather a group of friends and assemble an array of supplies, including camouflage fabric (found in department, craft or fabric stores), balloons, crepe paper, helmets, netting, and an assortment of artificial tress, bushes and odd branches. Don't forget camouflage party packs, available in party stores and intended for children's birthday parties, but they work perfectly for this purpose as well.

2. Cut camouflage fabric into appropriate sizes for use as table covers. Affix to the underneath of tables using packaging tape or simply drape over each table. Set the tables using the napkins and cups that come in the party pack. Fill the balloons with helium and string from the backs of chairs with ribbon. Wrap green and tan crepe paper around poles, dormers and door casings. Staple or tape in place.

3. 

   Cut large pieces of remaining fabric to hide walls. Affix with a staple gun. Line helmets with plastic wrap. You may have to borrow these from friends in the military, ex-military personnel, or visit a local Army/Navy surplus store to purchase them. Use these to serve snacks or to hold items like silverware and extra napkins. Using the drill, carve holes out of the pieces of fireplace wood that are big enough to fit a votive candle. Insert candles in the holes and use these as centerpieces on each table.

4. Attach tree branches over fabric on the walls. If they cannot be stapled or taped to the fabric, stitch loops of heavy thread around the branches. Position artificial trees and bushes in strategic places throughout the hall. String lengths of netting from one tree to another or from the wall to a tree. The idea is to make it look like a trap in the jungle. Strew fabric leaves over tables, chairs and on the floor.

5. Serve drinks (maybe even champagne) from a large camouflage canteen. This will obviously have to be refilled frequently, so it might be best to have a few of them filled and ready to use. Raise your glass and toast the happy couple with your camouflage cup filled with champagne.

Tips & Warnings

• In addition to these decorations, the ring bearer can carry a pillow made of camouflage fabric and a variety of camouflage accessories are available for the entire wedding party to wear.
