How to Track Cell Phone Numbers

Cell phone companies have worked hard to keep customers' information private and out of the public domain. So tracing cell phone numbers is a little more difficult then finding a landline phone number. But there are a few services that provide the name and address associated with the cell phone owner. These services are called reverse cell phone look-up companies, and typically charge a nominal fee for a report. Here's a guide to tracking cell phone numbers.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check out Cell Phone Tracer. This company will give you the owner's city and carrier name for free; however, to find the owner's name, you need to pay $14.95 to view full results.

  2. Step 2

Consider using Mobile Phone Number. This company will allow you to purchase information about the cell phone owner such as name, city and state. But you'll need to purchase a full report starting at $14.95.

  3. Step 3

Check out Intelius reverse phone number look-up. You can get access to the city and state the cell phone number is registered in for free. If you want the full information including name and address, you will need to pay $4.95 for this report.

  4. Step 4

Check out Phone Searches. The site is a good resource for more complicated searches; for example, if you call back a cell phone number and it's disconnected (but you want to know whom the phone is registered to). However, this service is more expensive, costing $100 or more for reports.

  5. Step 5

Consider using Reverse Phone Detectives. This company charges $14.95 to trace a cell phone number -- showing the owner's name and address. And the company provides a money-back guarantee that you'll be satisfied with the results.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the phone number belongs to a business, you may be able to find it online for free. For example, type the cell phone number into the search bar and if the phone number is owned by a business, the results will show this information.
  • Check out a free cell phone directory. There aren't many free cell phone directories available, but Non-Published (see Resources) allows you to find out the carrier and city the cell phone number is located in -- although you'll need to pay extra to get the cell phone owner's name.
