DVD burners allow you to copy or make personal DVD movies. In addition, you can use this to watch DVD movies from your computer, make music CDs or backup your hard drive data. You can replace your current CD or DVD player that is in your PC with a DVD burner. You can use the IDE cable that is already inside your computer. With tools around the home, you will be able to begin using your DVD burner within 30 minutes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Phillips head screwdriver DVD burner
  1. Step 1

Use your screwdriver to remove both panels on your tower. There are three screws on each side. Put the panels and the screws to the side in a safe place.

  2. Step 2

Locate your current CD or DVD drive. Remove the four screws holding the drive into place. Two will be on each side of the tower, so make sure you remove both sets before you try to take the drive out.

  3. Step 3

Detach the cords from the back of the DVD or CD drive. They may be tight, so wiggle them back and fourth until both cords are out. Pull the drive out from the front of the tower.

  4. Step 4

Take your new DVD burner and push it inside the tower where the other drive came out. When it is all the way in, use the four screws to secure it in place.

  5. Step 5

Attach the IDE cord. The IDE cord is the long flat connector. Take the IDE cord and push the end into the DVD burner in the long pin spot. Make sure it is in all the way.

  6. Step 6

Connect the power supply cord. The power cord is the group of colorful wires coming from the power supply. The white connector from the colorful wires goes into the smaller pin connector. This is usually on the left side of the DVD burner. Push it in all the way. You may feel resistance; this is normal.

  7. Step 7

Place the panels back onto the tower. Then turn on the computer. Go to your "My Computer" icon on the desktop. You should see another drive; usually the letter is "D:" or "E:".

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not attempt to remove the DVD or CD drives while the computer is on. This can damage the PC as well as the component.
