Instructions

    • 1

If you have an old pair of drapes that fits the window for which you're making new curtains, measure them. If not, measure the dimensions of the window area. Allow 5 inches extra at the top and an additional 1 inch on all other sides. This will give you enough room to make seams. If you want your curtains to be full, double the window's width if you don't have old curtains to measure.

    • 2

Purchase the fabric and matching thread. If you are unsure of how a particular fabric will hold up and how it is to work with, ask the store employee. She should be able to advise you on the best material for your needs.

    • 3

Cut the fabric to the desired size. Fold over the raw edges toward the inside of the fabric so you end up with a finished seam. Sew the edges of the fabric together. You should end up with a big square of fabric with the sides sewn under.

    • 4

Fold the upper portion of the slide curtains over toward the inside of the fabric. Leave enough room for the curtain rod to slide through. Pin the area to be sewn and make a straight seam across the top.

    • 5

Slip the curtain rod through the open area at the top of your curtains. Hang the rod back into the window. Your slide curtains should easily slip back and forth upon the rod. Your window is now finished with your new slide curtains.
