Use a Grease Gun

A grease gun makes greasing parts of your car simpler. It allows you to inject grease into hard-to-reach places. A grease gun is one of every mechanic's favorite tools. It speeds up the greasing process and enables the mechanic to not only get the job done, but to do it better. A grease gun is also a popular tool in the factory. Lubrication technicians use a grease gun to grease machines. The grease gun comes in a few different styles, including pistol grip, air powered, lever, hand grip and battery powered. The grease output varies with each gun.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the barrel from the handle by unscrewing it counter clockwise. The barrel holds the grease.

    • 2

Line up the opening of the barrel with the center of a tub of grease. Make sure the plunger is all the way inside the barrel.

    • 3

Push the barrel into the grease while pulling back on the plunger. The suction will force the grease into the barrel.

    • 4

Wipe off the end of the barrel after it is full, and screw it back onto the handle.

    • 5

Pump the trigger a few times to get the grease started, just as you would a pump lotion or soap. Once you create a stream of grease, you can apply it to the needed parts.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are using a tube of grease and not a tub, you will have to fill the barrel up using a spoon. Do not use a spoon you'll be reusing in the kitchen.

  • Wear gloves when working with a grease gun to protect your hands from chemicals and rough car and machine parts.
