How to Install an External Seagatte Hard Drive

With a Seagate external hard drive, you can transfer files from either a Mac or a PC off of your primary internal hard drive in order to conserve space. Seagate external hard drives connect to your computer using either a USB or Firewire cable and come with an installation CD that you should run prior to using the drive.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Seagate external hard drive PC or Mac computer USB or Firewire cable Power adapter
  1. Step 1

    Put the installation CD that came with your hard drive into your computer and run the installation program.

  2. Step 2

    Connect the power adapter into your Seagate external hard drive and plug the other end into a standard electrical outlet.

  3. Step 3

    Connect the Seagate external hard drive to your PC or Mac using the included USB or Firewire cable.

  4. Step 4

    Turn the Seagate external hard drive on by pressing a finger to the power button on the side of the drive.

  5. Step 5

    Open the "My Computer" window on a PC and double-click on the Seagate external hard drive icon. You can then begin dragging and dropping files onto the drive.

  6. Step 6

    Open a new Finder window on a Mac by clicking on the Dock icon. Then click on the Seagate external hard drive under the "Devices" list. You can then begin dragging and dropping files onto the drive.
