How to Define Web Browser

On both PC and Mac computers, you can define your default browser through the system settings. Once you select a default browser, all Web pages will automatically open with this application until you change the settings again. Before defining a new browser, Internet Explorer is the default for PC computers and Safari is the default for Macs.

Things You'll Need:

  • PC or Mac computer

    PC Instructions

  1. Step 1

    Log on to your computer with an account that has administrative rights.

  2. Step 2

    Open the Start menu and click on the "Control Panel" icon.

  3. Step 3

    Double-click on the "Add or Remove Programs" icon.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the "Set Program Access and Defaults" button on the left side of the pop-up window.

  5. Step 5

    Choose "Custom" and then click on the radio button next to the Web browser you want to define as your default browser. Click "OK" to save the changes.

  6. Mac Instructions

  7. Step 1

    Open the Safari application by clicking on the icon in the dock.

  8. Step 2

    Go to "Safari" in the top menu bar and choose "Preferences."

  9. Step 3

    Go to the "General" tab at the top of the preferences window.

  10. Step 4

    Click on the "Default web browser" drop-down menu and select a new program to define as your default browser.
