How to Hook Up a JBL Subwoofer

Connecting your JBL subwoofer to an amplifier, or "hooking it up," is an essential step in using it to get the solid bass sound want in your car audio system. The hook-up isn't complicated. After a few quick connections, you'll be done with the job.

Things You'll Need

• JBL subwoofer Amplifier Subwoofer box Two pieces of speaker wire

Instructions

1. 

   Strip the ends of your speaker wire so a 1/2 inch of bare wire shows on each end.

2. Connect one end of the first piece of speaker wire to the inside of the terminal cup in your subwoofer box. The terminal cup will have two metal tabs with set screws marked "+" and "-." Loosen the screws, place the bare wire underneath, and tighten them back down. Connect the other end of the wire to the terminals of the subwoofer. Push down on the subwoofer's terminals and insert the bare end of the wire into the holes that appear. Be sure that the speaker wires connect the positive "+" terminals of the terminal cup to the positive terminal of the subwoofer and the negative to the negative.

3. Place the JBL subwoofer into the cutout of the subwoofer box and secure it in place with wood screws. The wood screws will go through the predrilled holes in the outer rim of the JBL subwoofer and be secured into the wood of the box.

4. 

   Take one end of the second piece of speaker wire and connect it to the cup terminals on the outside of the sub box. Then connect the other ends to the amplifier. As in Step 2, be sure to connect positive to positive and negative to negative. Fire up your system and enjoy some bass courtesy of your JBL subwoofer.
