Unplug the dryer. Lift the lint-trap cover on top of the dryer and remove the lint trap. Unscrew the two screws that secure the lint trap housing and put them in a safe place.

    • 2

Raise the top of the dryer and unhook the door-switch wiring harness. Unscrew the screw that secures the dryer's front panel, which is located at the top of either side of the front panel. Place the screws safely with the other removed screws. Lift the front panel to remove it from the body of the dryer.

    • 3

Remove the old dryer belt and replace the new Whirlpool dryer belt around the tumbler with the grooves toward the surface of the tumbler. Place a box or a block underneath the tumbler to support it while you maneuver the belt into the correct position on the black line that spans the girth of the tumbler.

Follow the diagram to route the new Whirlpool dryer belt correctly around both the idler and the motor pulleys. Take out the box or block that has been supporting the tumbler.

    • 5

Align the dryer's front panel so the tumbler fits properly. Replace the two screws you removed from the front panel. Open the dryer door and turn the tumbler once anticlockwise. Reattach the door-switch wiring harness, making sure it touches no moving part.

Use a flat butter knife to make sure the rubber seal at the back of the dryer's tumbler is on the outside of the tumbler and not stuck on the inside. This is an important step; failing to complete it may result in a fire.

    • 7

Lower the top dryer panel onto front panel. Replace the dryer's lint housing and filter, and replace the two screws you first removed. Plug the dryer back into the electrical socket and use in the normal way.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never overload your Whirlpool dryer, as this may cause the dryer's belt to break.

  • Do not dry rubberized clothing (like ski wear), as this may cause a fire.
